The University of Missouri School of Law has a history of educating students to become outstanding lawyers, judges, public servants, business leaders, and entrepreneurs. It strives to be the school of choice for those seeking the finest legal education for a reasonable price. Mizzou Law and its supporters are constantly seeking opportunities to address challenges facing the school, build up areas of excellence to position the school for the future, and maintain and build on its strengths. The school’s long-term goal is to establish its national and international reputation as one of the premier state law schools, while continuing to train lawyers for practice in the state of Missouri.
The Annual Tim Heinsz 5K, 10K & Jim Devine Dog Walk & Bob Bailey Bike Ride honors the memory of three of Mizzou Law’s most beloved deans. Tim Heinsz served as dean of the MU School of Law and was an avid runner. Tim Heinsz was the former dean at the School of Law. He first joined the law faculty in 1979 as a visiting professor and became a full-time faculty member in 1981. He served as dean from 1988 through 2002. He was an expert in the field of labor law and was a dear friend and colleague. Unfortunately, Tim died unexpectedly while jogging on the MKT Trail in July 2004. Jim Devine served as associate dean of the school and was a noted dog lover. Bob Bailey was a long-time assistant dean and is an avid cyclist. Proceeds benefit the Timothy J. Heinsz Scholarship Fund.
Generous donors make it possible for current law students to earn their degrees without going into an unbearable amount of debt through scholarship funding, which also helps recruit the best and brightest students. In order to attract those students, we must increase the number and size of our scholarship offerings. The Law School Scholarship Fund enables us to offer enhanced tuition assistance to high-achieving applicants.
The Law School Fund for Excellence allows the dean to assist with propelling Mizzou Law forward. This fund is used for enhancing student study spaces, facilitating faculty research, enriching student experiences, and more.
